Many Sarajevans come to buy that most famous traditional pastry with black seed, without which the iftar table is unimaginable.

There are sufficient somuni for everyone, including the socially endangered category of people, who find their welfare in this renowned bakery. Every Ramadan, the owner Elvis Trtić provides a sufficient numbers of free somuni for this vulnerable category.

That humane and selfless act is also respected by his family, employees, and even buyers, who always buy a somun or two extra, to come in handy for those who need them.

“This gesture was recognized by our loyal customers so they also help a lot, by paying for somuni for those who cannot afford them,” said Trtić.

When asked how much somuni are given away every day to socially vulnerable citizens of Sarajevo, Trtić said that there are “two channels” of distribution:

“The first one is at this sales point, when our buyers and we pay for somuni immediately, and the second channel is through the charity organization Pomozi.ba with whom we have great cooperation in the past three years. Within the joint project ‘Meal for everyone’, we constantly give away somuni, and one part is sent to the Soup Kitchen, the SOS Children’s Villages and the Institute for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons in Nedžarići. According to some estimation, during Ramadan we make around 500 happy every day,” said Trtić, adding that their efforts to help the socially vulnerable citizens continue throughout the year.
