The Institute of Economics in Banja Luka has been working intensively in the last 2 months on gathering data on the current use of electricity for cooling purposes in BiH, which is consistent with the expected and previously announced project activities.
According to the website of the Economics Institute, the goal of Adriacold is research application and use of alternative sources of energy, more specifically solar energy for the use of cooling buildings, and the development of cooperation between scientific institutions, public and private sector (especially in field of tourism, agriculture and industry) in order to make better use of the potential of solar energy for cooling buildings. The emphasis is on mass application in coastal areas of the Adriatic.
The application possibilities of solar energy for the purpose of cooling are very broad and this study included facilities such as public buildings (schools, nurseries, public administration buildings, hospitals, health clinics, homes for the elderly, etc.), agricultural buildings (family farms, wineries, dairy farms, greenhouses, etc.), and utility or smaller commercial buildings (restaurants, shopping centers, shops, bridal salons, etc.)
The study was carried out on the territory of BiH, with a particular focus on Herzegovina (east and west) due to the specific climate, proximity to the Adriatic sear and coastal areas, as well as the large number of sunny days during the year. This makes it an attractive area for the implementation of such a project. Subjects involved in the study were selected randomly from available databases and existing registers at all levels of government (state, entity, cantonal and local).
Identical research, using standard methodology, will at the same time be carried out on the territory of four more countries that are participating in the project-Italy, Croatia, Slovenia and Albania.
Processing, analyzing and summarizing research results at the level of all five countries that are participating in the project will follow the next period.
