One of the biggest cultural manifestations in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) – “Bascarsija Nights”, starts on Monday, July 1st.

The twenty-eighth edition of this summer festival will host many top domestic and foreign authors and artists, the organizers announced.

”The festival successfully promotes both domestic and international cultural heritage, enriching our communities with a wealth of diversity. I am glad that we cherish traditional values and give opportunities to young people, because they are the future. This year’s program is diverse, and I am especially pleased with the performances of young artists,” emphasized the Minister of Culture and Sports of Canton Sarajevo (CS), Kenan Magoda.

He added that this year the Municipality of Stari Grad also supported the festival, and that this gives additional value and importance to the festival.

Irfan Cengic, Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, which supported the festival this year, praised the rich program of this year’s “Bascarsija Nights”.

”I’m sure we all look forward to open-air concerts in the Old Town, and I particularly single out the concert by Nermin Puskar on July 4th in Zelenih beretki Street and Amira Medunjanin on July 31st in the First Police Brigade Square,” said Mayor Cengic.

Director of the Bosnian Cultural Center, Jasmin Durakovic, emphasized that, in addition to the traditional program, there is also a program for young people.

”In addition to traditional programs, artistic forms such as sevdah, rock, jazz, the intention is to try to involve young people, to tie them to our programs, as well as to have all generations come to the events. This is exactly how we have a breakthrough in opening the young scene of young bands, those who will develop a new scene, and where they will connect through the creative hub,” said Durakovic.

This year, the opening of the festival will be about young urban hip-hop artists. Thus, Katarza, Geko, Black Beriz and DJ Kaizen will arrive on stage in the atrium of Sarajevo’s Bosnian Cultural Center on July 1st, together with surprise guests, eKapija writes.
