Becirovic: BiH, together with the Democratic World, expresses Solidarity with Ukraine

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Denis Becirovic, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, once again emphasized support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom, condemned Russia’s flagrant violation of international law, and called for an end to the invasion of the sovereign and independent state of Ukraine.

“For two years now, the aggression of the Russian Federation against independent and sovereign Ukraine has been ongoing. For two full years, I have supported Ukraine’s right to self-defense, that is, its right to defend its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. It is extremely important for BiH to stand ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with the countries of the free world in condemning the open Russian aggression against the independent state of Ukraine, a full member of the United Nations (UN),” said Becirovic.

He emphasized that “it is very important for BiH, together with other democratic countries, on the international level, to join diplomatic actions demonstrating solidarity with Ukraine and condemning the Russian Federation for its disregard for international law.”

“It is particularly noteworthy to emphasize that BiH in 2023 fully aligned its foreign policy with the European Union’s (EU) common foreign and security policy. This is the best response to pro-Russian elements in our country,” Becirovic stated.

He added that the state of BiH will continue to insist on respecting the basic principles of international law contained in the UN Charter, the Declaration of 1970, and other relevant international agreements that regulate the fundamental rights and duties of states in international relations.

“The Russian aggression against Ukraine and the changed geopolitical circumstances clearly determine that the accelerated integration of the state of BiH into the EU and NATO is the most effective way to prevent destabilization of the Western Balkans region. In this context, it is of great importance for the European Council to make a decision in March of this year to open negotiations between BiH and the EU,” the statement from the office of Denis Becirovic, a member of the Presidency of BiH, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, stated.
