On the third day of the 42nd International Fair of Agriculture and Food Industry in Gradacac, the innovator Abdulah Smajlovic from Srebrenik presented the “Eco-Rotary Dryer for Fruits and Herbs”.
Research, design, and production lasted for two years, and the work of the machine was presented at the Plum Fair.
“This dryer is the first of its kind in the world and allows drying of the fruit from all sides. Video surveillance is integrated in it and it can be managed from remote places. Given that I am in the Ecological Movement of the Tuzla Canton for 17 years now and that the environment and air are getting increasingly polluted every day, and also that the drying which was in practice so far allowed the admixtures of flared gases to go over the materials which are being dried, I came up with the idea of rotary movement. Namely, the air we breathe passes through a filter, goes to the heating chamber and as such, clean and warm, goes inside and uses the rotational movement principle to dry fruits, herbs, and everything else that can be dried. In addition, what is very important, the fruits do not change color”, Smajlovic said.
Professors from the Technology Faculty in Tuzla Midhat Jasic and Zehrudin Osmanovic supported this BH innovator’s idea. In his addressing, Professor Osmanovic pointed out that not much is generally written about rotary driers, and praised this innovation.
“Out of ten elements important for the drying process, Smajlovic complied with at least eight of them. He went one step further by installing the video surveillance, in order to track the drying parameters”, Professor Osmanovic emphasized.
Professor Osmanovic talked about the process of drying plums, while Professor Jasic paid special attention to the products with added value on the basis of plum and its curative properties.
“At least 50 plum products have an added value. The seed is of special value. The husk is used for the production of activated carbon, which is used in medicine and sugar production, and the core can be used for the production of marzipan. The seed also contains vitamin B12”, Jasic said.
