BHRT will not be broadcasting this year’s Eurovision Song Contest?

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s broadcaster BHRT will not be broadcasting this year’s Eurovision Song Contest to their viewers for another year.

The Head of Delegation for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lejla Babovic, has recently confirmed this news. Speaking to Faktor.ba, she states that the current financial situation of the country is “difficult to talk about”.

Once again, BHRT is unable to afford to broadcast the contest due to the debt that they owe to the EBU. They are currently being sanctioned by them and as a result, they cannot acquire the rights to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Babovic went on to say that it is not so straightforward to cover the costs via sponsorship. Furthermore, the total cost of covering all three nights, starting next week, would be extremely expensive.

The last time we saw Bosnia and Herzegovina compete in the contest was in 2016. Here, we saw, Deen, who previously competed in 2004, alongside Dalal, Ana Rucner and Jala. They narrowly missed out on qualifying after finishing 11th in their semi final with 104 points.

Bosnia and Herzegovina debuted in 1993 and have competed 19 times. Their best result to date is their third-place finish in 2006. Hari Mata Hari’s “Lejla” received 229 points in total, Escxtra reports.
