After eight hours of baking, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s chefs set world record for the largest serving of pancakes here Friday.
For seven hours and 22 minutes, BiH chefs made 12,874 pancakes, thus breaking a record set in Russia on Feb. 25, 2017 when 12,716 pancakes were made. However, 140 chefs continued baking and prepared 14,186 pancakes for eight hours.
Haris Mujezinovic, one of the judges, told reporters that the number of pancakes served is 14,186 and that there were no problems during baking and counting. He believed this is a very good promotion of city of Sarajevo in the world.
One of the young chefs told Xinhua that they started preparation of the pancakes at 10 a.m. and then without stopping for eight hours, but with lots of laughter and no pressure. They had a very good organization, making a plan in advance and dividing the work.
Nermin Hodzic, president of the Association of Chefs in BiH, marveled at the success of breaking a record in seven hours and 22 minutes.
“This is a proof that when we are together and when we are united we can win against Russia as well,” Hodzic told reporters with a smile after the pancakes were counted.
Hodzic thanked three older women, who voluntarily arrived at 3 a.m. from the city of Brcko, some 180 kilometers north of Sarajevo, to help with dough preparation for the pancakes.
All pancakes were packaged and delivered to people in need, orphans, the elderly and migrants.
The event was held as part of the Sarajevo Tourism Festival 2018.
