After the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East and recorded explosions in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina took measures to protect its citizens. The head of BiH diplomacy, Elmedin Konaković, confirmed for Fena that part of the embassy staff has already been evacuated, along with their families and several BiH citizens who expressed their desire to leave the region.

“This morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs managed to establish contact with the Embassy in Tehran. Earlier, we already evacuated part of the staff, in fact the families of our staff members and several citizens of BiH who expressed their desire to be evacuated. Some stayed at their personal request. We have two people in the Embassy who are still there and we spoke with them this morning. We are in contact with other embassies and a large number of our citizens are contacting us concerned about the events,” said Konaković.

He emphasized that today they spoke with the staff at the BiH embassies in Doha, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait, who are in constant communication with citizens, and that it is recommended to all who have not yet done so to establish contact with the diplomatic and consular missions.

“We have had several cases from Bahrain, several reports. The Ministry will, if necessary, take all necessary measures for evacuation,” Konaković pointed out.

He also warned about the global dimension of the current escalation of the conflict.

“These conflicts are already threatening global stability. The world order, as we knew it, does not exist. These are some strange times and we have to adapt to them to some extent,” Konaković said.

According to him, BiH has good communication with the European Union, the United Nations and other international organizations. Our embassies coordinate activities with EU countries that are present in that region, analyze the situation and plan joint moves.

“In the previous cases of evacuations from Gaza and Syria, we showed a high degree of professionalism. I believe that our people will respond to this task as well,” Konaković told Fena news agency.

Israel, in cooperation with the United States of America, launched an attack on Iran this morning. Explosions are heard in Tehran and some other cities, and sirens all over Israel. Tehran retaliated by attacking Israel and American bases in the Middle East. US President Donald Trump said that the goal is “to defend the American people by eliminating the immediate threats of the Iranian regime”. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israel carried out what he called a “preemptive” attack on Iran.
