BiH FM: We are in intensive Contact with international Officials

A vice-chairwoman of the Council of Ministers and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Bisera Turkovic, announced on social networks regarding theannouncement of the imposition of the Election Law of BiH and changes to the Constitution of the Federation of BiH (FBiH).

“We are in intensive contact with numerous international officials regarding the announcements of the imposition of the electoral law and changes to the FBiH Constitution. Unequivocal messages were sent about the unacceptability of cementing ethnic divisions in BiH,” said Turkovic and added:

“Amendments to the Constitution of the FBiH by introducing a threshold of three percent representation of the constituent nations in order to allocate mandates in the House of Peoples of the FBiH would be a blatant example of human rights violations in BiH. Discriminatory provisions would be cemented in the constitution and law, which would also jeopardize the European path. What does the European Court of Human Rights think about this? What does the Venice Commission think?” asked Minister Turkovic.

She stressed that such actions will further drive away young people from BiH.

“The United States (U.S.) and Europe must show solidarity when it comes to protecting the Dayton Agreement and its preamble, in which the protection of human rights is given the highest priority! If we continue with this counting and denial of the rights of those who do not belong to the majority, young people will continue to leave BiH wondering why they should live in a country where they don’t have equal rights?” she said.

The high representative of the international community in BiH, Christian Schmidt, according to unofficial information, should announce a decision on Tuesday regarding the amendments to the Constitution of the FBiH and the Election Law of BiH.
