An important meeting of NATO officials will be held in December in Sarajevo, and we also received a promise that NATO forces will be physically deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina if Russia opposes the extension of the European Union’s military mission in our country, ALTEA told “Interview” BH radio 1 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković.
“These are very important messages for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in earlier talks with representatives of the United States of America and talks with high-ranking European officials, we received guarantees that NATO continues to take care of the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is very important in order to discourage those forces that might be thinking about problems in our country”.
Konaković called comments and claims about stricter border controls due to the situation in the Middle East and that “extremists” from Bosnia and Herzegovina could threaten security in the countries of the European Union inappropriate.
“I firmly reject claims that threats from extremism come from BiH. These are unfounded theses about radicalism and extremism in BiH, which I strongly oppose. We have our own security challenges, which are no less than European ones,” said Konaković.
Regarding the visit of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who is coming to visit our country at the beginning of next month, Konaković says that there is room for optimism.
“Awaiting the European Commission’s report on the progress of our country, the situation will be much clearer. What is important is that we will have greater access to EU funds, if we open negotiations. I hope that will happen by the end of this year,” Konaković said.
