Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković is participating in the work of the 30th OSCE Ministerial Council in Skopje today.

During the first plenary session of the OSCE Ministerial Council, Minister Konaković addressed the audience and stated in his speech that past events began to call into question the OSCE’s ability to effectively solve common security problems and that the organization is at a crossroads, and that only a renewed commitment to fundamental principles is an imperative that strengthens strongholds, stability and dialogue in the international environment.

He added that commitment to the Organization cannot remain merely declarative and must be accompanied by real support for its mandate and work, and that diplomatic solutions based on dialogue should be found in order to prevent further escalation of any conflicts.

Minister Konaković used the opportunity to express his appreciation to the Chairman of the OSCE, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, for his professionalism and hard work throughout 2023, but especially for the efforts made to overcome the challenges the organization faced.

He called on all OSCE member states to adopt the budget without any delay, in accordance with the Chairman’s proposal, as well as to reach a consensus on the four highest management positions in the OSCE.

During the session, the Joint Declaration on the fight against corruption was signed.

Minister Konaković said that corruption is an international issue, and that this problem is a social challenge that requires a comprehensive and permanent response. He also pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina is committed to regional cooperation and joint work, as well as that strengthening the prevention of corruption and the fight against organized crime is one of the key priorities on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards the European Union.
