Today, Pope Francis received the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic, in his first audience this year.

Chairman and the Holy Father had a private conversation in the Papal Apostolic Palace, during which Komsic briefed the Pope on the latest developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina said that in a cordial conversation, Komsic and Pope Francis also touched on the problems facing Bosnia and Herzegovina, primarily with the departure of people from the entire region, as well as the challenges of modern times. In particular, in a private conversation, they spoke about the importance of preserving universal values.

After the visit to the Palace, the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina presented a gift to Pope Francis, a valuable edition of the book “Kingdom of Bosnia”, as well as a seal ring of the Bosnian ruler from Donja Zgosca near Kakanj.

After the meeting with Pope Francis, Komsic also met with Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Vatican’s secretary for relations with states. In the conversation with Komsic, the Archbishop emphasized the role of the Vatican in the recognition of Bosnia and Herzegovina as an independent state, as well as the great support they still give to an independent and sovereign Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Archbishop Gallagher was also interested in the security and political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the attitude of neighboring and other countries towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and the crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the statement said.
