Bosnia and Herzegovina’s second busiest airport handled 66.732 passengers in August, representing an increase of 2.1% compared to the same month last year. During the January – August period, Tuzla Airport handled 405.532 travellers, down 0.6%. So far this year, the airport has shed 2.639 passengers compared to 2018, Ex-Yu Aviation news reports.
Earlier in January this year, the International Airport in Tuzla has published a tender for contractors who will participate in the construction of the atrium worth 1.375.690,70 BAM.
Along with the construction of an atrium, a sewage network with a wastewater treatment plant will be established as well.
Atrium, on an area of almost 900 square meters, with souvenir shops, rent-a-car and tourist agencies, and the atrial design solution has already been completed, as well as the execution and main project, and if the administrative procedures are completed within the foreseen time, the construction could begin in a new construction season.
The constant increase in the number of passengers has initiated the reconstruction and extension of the passenger terminal at the Tuzla Airport and the value of the investment amounted to 6.5 million BAM.
Works are still ongoing, and upon completion, there will be a possibility for 700,000 passengers to use the airport throughout one year, and 400 persons could be served in one hour.
400,000 BAM was allocated for building a customs warehouse for aviation fuel, and the building is already finished.
In the past four years, more than 15 million BAM has been invested in the Tuzla airport, and investment interests have so far been shown by investors from Austria, China and Turkey.
Also, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Transportation Mirsad Gluhic and Minister of Healthcare Bahrudin Hadziefendic visited the International Airport of Tuzla where they talked with the director Rifet Karasalihovic about everything that has been realized last year as well as future plans for this year.
Director Karasalihovic presented the dynamics of works on the reconstruction of the passenger terminal to ministers of the Government of Tuzla Canton, as well as the project of the construction of atrium and space where travel agencies, rent-a-car houses and souvenir shops will be located at the International Airport of Tuzla. Karasalihovic noted that some of the works were delayed due to weather conditions and low temperatures, and added that all works should be completed by the end of May.
Minister Gluhic also noted a record 50 % increase in the number of passengers in the first three months of this year. By keeping the same number of passengers in the remaining nine months, the International Airport of Tuzla could have more than half a million passengers on an annual basis. The International Airport of Tuzla had a total of 40,563 passengers in January, which is by 52.81 % more than in the same period last year, while it recorded a total of 35,976 passengers in February, which is by 55.70 % more than in the same month of the year of 2017.
