Borrell warns: War is on the Horizon in Europe, it’s no small Thing

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, said that war in Europe is on the horizon.

“We imagined being in a world with a circle of friends after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and that was replaced by a ring of fire between us, instability from the Sahel to the Middle East, the Caucasus and the Baltics, not to look deeper into Africa. A ring of fire around us,” he said during the “New Economy” Forum in Madrid.

He noted that this is now a very important moment in the construction of Europe because war is on the horizon and it is not a small matter.

According to him, the best way to strengthen NATO is to increase European defense capacities.

“The EU will not have a common army in the foreseeable future, and defense will remain the responsibility of the members,” noted Borrell.
He warned that the possibility of a high-intensity conventional war in Europe “is no longer a fantasy”, Srna reports.
