13162064_1176612132389741_1034306801_nSarajevo marked the anniversary of a tragic love story that back in 1993 shook the entire world. Admira Ismić and Boško Brkić, Sarajevo’s ”Romeo and Juliet” died together. Many books, stories and songs talk about their love. Soon, Sarajevo will give them a monument to honor their love.

Admira and Boško died on the 18th of May 1993. They met during the Olympic Games in Sarajevo, and they lived together in Sarajevo during its siege.

The fact that Boško was a Bosnian Serb and Admira was a Bosnian Muslim have never been an obstacle for them, nor for their parents.

Admira’s father, Zijo Ismić, says that they planned to leave the besieged city. They planned to go to Bratislava because one of the Admira’s professor lived there and he promised to help them, says Zijo. Admira and Boško were buried on Sarajevo’s cemetery ”Lav.” Besides their graves, they have no other monuments. The Mayor of Sarajevo, Željko Komšić, in his statement for TV1, claims that he will direct initiative for making a monument.

”In Sarajevo, we had an opportunity to see many deaths, starting from child deaths to elderly deaths, but this death is symbolic because it has some kind of epic power and not the ordinary one. It’s a story of two people who loved each other during the times when their love was forbidden, when everything was against them, states the Mayor of Sarajevo, Željko Komšić.”
