On 12 June 2020, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the indictment in the case of Muharem Dunić, charging the accused Muharem Dunić with the criminal offense of Illegal Establishment and Joining Foreign Paramilitary or Parapolice Formations under Article 162b(2) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Indictment alleges that in August 2014 the accused Muharem Dunić forged a plan, obtained the necessary information, secured the funding and agreed with other persons that they should go to Syria together with their families and join the ISIL – in the so-called Islamic State in the territory of Syria and Iraq.

He left the territory of Austria, where he was temporarily working, through the Vienna International Airport, on a Vienna-Istanbul flight, from where he crossed the Turkish-Syrian border and entered Syria.

Under the Indictment, during his stay in Syria and for the needs of the ISIL terrorist organization the accused Muharem Dunić took part in the war activities which included serious violation of international humanitarian law and the laws and customs of war.

That is where he stayed until December 2019, which is when, together with the remaining members o ISIL in Syria, following their military defeat, he surrendered to the Kurdish and allied forces in Syria, in the town of Baghuz.
