Prosecutor from the Section for Terrorism of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an Indictment against Muharem Dunić, born in 1974 in Jajce, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The accused is charged to have left the territory of the Republic of Austria in 2014, together with his wife, and gone to Turkey, wherefrom he illegally crossed the border with Syria, and there he joined paramilitary formations operating within the structures of the so-called “ISIL”, which was declared a terrorist organization by the Decision of the UN Security Council.

The investigation has established that the accused participated in war activities that represent serious violations of international humanitarian law, all with the aim of forming the caliphate of the so-called “Islamic State” in the area of the two war-torn states.

After the defeat of the structures of the so-called “ISIL”, the accused was captured in early 2019 by members of the Kurdish forces in Syria, and at the end of 2019 he was extradited to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he was deprived of liberty and remanded in custody.

The accused is charged with the commission of the criminal offence of Illegal Establishment and Joining Foreign Paramilitary or Parapolice Formations, referred to in Article 162b of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Indictment has been forwarded to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for confirmation.
