The Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The quarter-century of the district’s existence will be marked with numerous events over the next month, and the central event is the academy to be held on March 7.
Throughout March, various events will mark the founding day of the Brčko District, a specific multiethnic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina with its own public administration and institutions. This year, the authorities are announcing the presentation of the vision for the future of the district. Souvenirs
SINIŠA MILIĆ, Mayor of the Brčko District
“This ceremony will be an opportunity to highlight the significance of the quarter-century of Brčko’s existence through a suitable program, to of course look back on the achievements, difficulties and failures we have had so far. Any plan that does not include mistakes from the past is not a complete plan, and in that light, we will present a vision for the future of the district.”
As part of the celebration of the district’s day, Brčko associations, which are very active in this part of the country, are organizing as many as 25 events.
SAVO LUKIC, President of the Association “Voćni klub” Brčko
“Before, there were more of these associations, but they all imposed themselves with their work and quality, which contributed to the affirmation of the Brčko District”.
The citizens of Brčko, often called Bosnia and Herzegovina in miniature, are plagued by the same problems as in the rest of the country.
Those who participate in shaping everyday life believe that the Brčko District has enormous potential.
INA PAMUKČIĆ, Member of the Brčko District Assembly
“An incredible jewel of BiH, but I believe that the resources and capacities that could be used have not been used enough. We are a state within a state that has its own institutions, an incredibly large amount of money that can be used in a better way.”
The celebrations marking the 25th anniversary will last for the next month, and 200,000 BAM will be allocated from the Brčko budget for these purposes.
