Brkic: There is no Alternative to full Membership of BiH in the EU and NATO

Gordan Grlic Radman, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia explained in Mostar that the European Union (EU) has no alternative but that it is important to see what the citizens of the Union countries want from Europe and how they see it.

”The EU has no alternative considering the European values, human rights, the rule of fundamental freedom and other things, but it is important to involve young people, NGOs thoughtfully, critically so that all of us who are in politics of our countries today can contribute to a better, safer, and more prosperous EU,”said the Croatian minister ahead of a panel discussion at a conference on the future of Europe entitled “Preparing for Tomorrow: Europe’s Global and Regional Role in Responding to Transnational Challenges”.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Josip Brkic emphasized that this is a tangible example of how both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia and the University of Mostar are strategically thinking about the fact that the future of BiH in the EU.

”We are talking about the future of Europe and this is a very specific example of the Republic of Croatia’s concern for the whole of BiH and its place once the conditions for full membership in the EU are met,” Brkic stressed.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia and the University of Mostar organized a panel discussion on Wednesday as part of the Conference on the Future of Europe entitled “Preparing for Tomorrow: Europe’s Global and Regional Role in Responding to Transnational Challenges”.

Namely, the conference participants were greeted by, among others, the Mayor of Mostar Mario Kordic, the Prime Minister of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC) Nevenko Herceg,and the Rector of the University of Mostar Zoran Tomic.

The participants exchanged ideas on EU policies and activities, both in the neighborhood and globally, and the mentioned event was hosted by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

This Conference on the Future of Europe is a Europe-wide democratic endeavor, putting citizens at the heart of debating issues that are significant to them, with the goal of the EUresponding to their needs and interests in the years to come in the best possible way.
