An interesting old photo of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been published on the Rare Photos of Sarajevo Instagram page. Can you guess the location?
It is actually today’s Ulica Marsala Tita. The Sarajevo Insurance building was built here. After the Austro-Hungarian occupation of BiH, the section from Kosevski potok to Bascarsija was called Cemalusa, but after the Sarajevo assassination, it was renamed Franje Ferdinanda Street.
The new street was laid out in January 1919, between Marijin Dvor and Bascarsija. It was first named after Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, and in 1921 after Aleksandar I Karadjordjevic.
During the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), i.e. from 1941 to 1945, it was named after Ustasha Anto Pavelic. It has had its current name since April 6th, 1945, and in 1993 it was divided into two streets.
The part from Marijin Dvor to the Eternal Flame remainedMarsala Tita Street, and the part continuing to Bascarsija became Mula Mustafa Baseskija Street, Klix.ba reports.
