Case Opened Over Death of Woman Killed by Falling Tree, Confirms CS Prosecutor’s Office

The Canton Sarajevo (CS) Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case after a 40-year-old woman died after a tree fell on her in Grbavica.

Earlier, Novo Sarajevo Municipality councillor Arslan Ducic filed a criminal complaint against responsible persons in the Novo Sarajevo Municipality, as well as cantonal public companies and all other responsible unidentified persons, after a tree killed a woman yesterday morning in the Grbavica neighbourhood.

The spokesperson of the CS Prosecutor’s Office, Azra Bavcic, explained that video surveillance footage will be seized and the allegations from the complaint will be examined.

It should be recalled that on Monday, in the Sarajevo neighbourhood of Grbavica, a tree over 10 metres tall fell on a woman who later died at the Emergency Medicine Clinic from head injuries.

After filing the complaint, Ducic emphasized that the case affected him deeply and that someone must be held responsible for the death of a mother of two children.

“This could have been any one of us, and if this is not handled properly, this will not be an isolated case. Snow in January must not be an excuse for rotten and poorly maintained trees in pedestrian zones,“ Ducic stated.
