Catalan Assembly Takes Distance from Milorad Dodik’s Views on Catalonia’s Independence

Milorad-DodikThe Catalonia National Assembly, an organization that dedicates itself to the independence of Catalonia, distanced itself from a statement by RS President Milorad Dodik, who compared Scotland and Catalonia with the RS.

In a statement from this organization:

We have read the views expressed by Milorad Dodik in the November 8th 2013 issue of the newspaper Dnevni Avaz, in which he states that Scotland and Catalonia are examples of how to carry out the process of independence which, according to Dodik, the Republika Srpska (or Bosnian Serb Republic) does not rule out.

The National Catalan Assembly, the main popular Catalan movement promoting the independence of Catalonia, which is independent of any political party and brings together people of all leanings, would like to distance itself from his opinions. Catalonia aims to build a new and inclusive independent state, where there is a place for everyone regardless of their origin or nationality, and based on a constant dialogue between the different political forces. Moreover, our project is based on tolerance and respect for the rights of minorities, and on European integration. For these reasons we consider that Catalonia is in no way an example for the political projects advocated by Dodik and his party, which pursue lines that are totally opposite to those of our country.
