BiH Council of Ministers decided that the census will be postponed for 1 October.

Census was previously announced for April this year, but the Council of Ministers decided to acknowledge the recommendation of the International observation missions which stipulated that the census should be delayed for 6 months.

‘The stance of the European Commission is to postpone the census for October. The Council of Ministers secured the money.’ – said the Chairman of BiH Council of Ministers Vjekoslav Bevanda.

He explained that at the session, the Council of Ministers reviewed the amended report on preparations for the census and tasked the Agency of Statistics of the Council of Ministers, for the upcoming session, to submit amendments to the Census Law that will accept the recommendations of the International Observation Mission on delaying the census for six months.

The Council of Ministers urged all institutions involved in the organization of the census on the level of BiH, FBiH and RS to harmonise their legal regulations and the issue of entity lines; and the issue of lack of single registry and lack of plans for funding the census in the institutions.

Conducting the census is one of the conditions for BiH in order to start the negotiations with the EU about its membership.
