The interethnic basketball camp for high school students from BiH is being held from 27 April to 3 May in Hotel Hollywood in Ilidža as part of the program for international sports initiative.
The ceremony for the handing out of certificates is the first part of the program, and will include an address by the US Ambassador to BiH Patrick S. Moon. It will be held at 10:00.
The program is financed by the US State Bureau for Education and Culture and the US Embassy in Sarajevo with the Center for Intercultural Education and Development of the University of Georgetown in Washington, and in cooperation with the BiH partner Citizens Association “Nešto više”.
The camp is the first component of the program and represents a mutual exchange of young leadership in sports that will emphasize leadership, tolerance and interethnic cooperation, announced the association “Nešto više”.
The exchange takes place in two parts, which includes 12 BiH trainers, 36 participants and 8 basketball players (men and women) with Georgetown University, who will transfer their knowledge and models of cooperation through sport.
The target group of young basketball players is from 14 to 17 years old, high school students and their trainers and teachers.
The second phase of the project will be held in June, and includes a 20 day visit to the US with 12 selected teachers/trainers.
They will meet with experts in Washington and New York that lead programs for vulnerable American youth in order to hone their skills and develop new methods that would be applied in the work with young basketball players. The knowledge gained through the program will be implemented in other communities.
