Zeljko Komsic, chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), told Deutsche Welle that he did not want to touch, attack, or take anything from anyone.
“However, I will not allow a piece of land to be taken from me. It cannot happen at any cost. I will do everything to prevent the situation where we would have to defend ourselves as it was the case in the 90s, ” he stated.
Ghosts of the past
“We thought that time had passed,” Komsic said of the atmosphere that dominates our country. The word “war” is openly mentioned, and the German press writes about it.
As he noted, “the spiral of evil is accelerating”.
Attitude towards Milorad Dodik
In the conversation, Komsic did not name anyone, but his attitude towards his colleague from the Presidency, Milorad Dodik, and his announcements of steps that are interpreted as secessionist in Sarajevo are well known. Komsic called on the international community to clearly name the culprit for the latest development in BiH.
”They must say who is the one who is pushing BiH and the region into chaos, violence, war, and more blood as if we did not have enough of it. They have to say that clearly since we are not all the same in terms of what and how we want. I will not touch, attack, or take anything from anyone, but I will also not allow a piece of land to be taken from me. It cannot happen at any cost.”
A mistake of one generation
”My generation is deeply unhappy. We lived in something that was an orderly system and stability, which gave us hope. Then, against our will, we were pushed into a war that we first thought would never end. And when it was over, the chance to do something better was missed. We may have been tired of those events and the war, and we were comfortable in peace.
We forgot that, when we defended the state, we should have built it. And it’s not an easy task. It means continuing to enter into conflicts, political, with those who destroy the state, abuse power, steal, and make fools of you if you are a nice and decent man, they show you that you cannot succeed in life in that way.
Maybe as a generation we were too relaxed, lulled, maybe we expected the international community to make us a state, but then we sobered up and saw that it would not happen and found ourselves in a situation of what to do now. Maybe it is the mistake of our generation, just as we as a generation have the merit that we defended BiH, ” concluded Komsic.
