German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the decision of the European Union to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova, and sent a message to the countries of the Western Balkans.

He said that Germany supports the countries of the Western Balkans in their efforts to join the European Union.

“These six countries – Northern Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania and Kosovo – can trust Germany,” Scholz told reporters in Brussels after the second day of the European leaders’ meeting.

He said it was a long journey and that they should now show quick and visible achievements.

“We will be determined to support the possibility of membership for these six countries. These countries can rely on Germany in terms of their EU membership prospects,” he said.

Speaking about the candidate status for Ukraine, he states that it is a big step, Klix.ba writes.
