China is in communication “with all parties” about the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the country’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday, reiterating its call for de-escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.

At a regular news conference, the ministry was asked whether China had received any request from US President Donald Trump for help in ensuring the security of the strait, a vital artery for global energy supplies.

“We are in communication with all parties on the current situation and are committed to promoting de-escalation and calm,” ministry spokesman Lin Jian said.

Lin said China again called on all parties to immediately cease fighting to prevent escalation and wider economic consequences, Reuters reported.
