All over Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), holy masses were celebrated on the occasion of the most joyous Christian holiday – the birth of Jesus Christ.

Enjoyed by people around the world, it is synonymous with Santa Claus, gifts, cakes, songs or carols, and more — and Christmas 2023 won’t be any different. Christmas commemorates the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ.

Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem to Joseph and Mary. Considered the son of god, it is said that Jesus was conceived through the holy spirit. The Bible does not mention a specific date for Jesus’ birth as the Gregorian calendar did not exist back then.

It was only in the fourth century that the birth of Jesus Christ was attributed to December 25 for the first time, as per early Roman history. Constantine, the first Christian Roman emperor, declared that December 25 should be marked as Jesus Christ’s birth every year.
Around the world, the day is known by various names — Yuletide in Germany, Navidad in Spanish, Natale in Italian, and Noël in French.
Obviously, Christmas holds a lot of significance for followers of Christianity. Many followers believe that god sent Jesus Christ to the earthly realm on Christmas as a divine power to save humans from sinking into their grave of sins and guide people in the right path, CNBC writes.

A large number of believers in the Cathedral of Jesus’ Sacred Heart

In Sarajevo’s ”Jesus’ Sacred Heart” cathedral, a holy mass was held led by the Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Metropolitan Monsignor Tomo Vuksic.

The mass on the occasion of the biggest Catholic holiday, Christmas, was attended by a larger number of believers compared to the previous years, when the number was limited due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Holy Mass was also held in Banja Luka

With the presence of a large number of believers of the Catholic faith, a solemn Christmas mass was celebrated in the Cathedral of Saint Bonaventure in Banja Luka.

The Holy Mass was led by Bishop Franjo Komarica of Banja Luka, who said that this day represents the entry of God into human history, and that on Christmas, recognized love is reciprocated with love.

Believers in Mostar shared the joy of the most joyous Christian holiday

Christmas was also celebrated in Mostar. The Holy Christmas Mass in the Mostar Cathedral of Mary Mother of the Church was led by Don Josip Galic, pastor of the Mostar Cathedral Parish.

He said that the word Christmas is a diminutive of the word God and that God made a step forward in human history, which is imperative for people to make a step forward towards God.

Tuzla: May the joy of Christmas remain in the believers throughout the year

A large number of believers gathered at the festive Christmas Holy Mass in the Franciscan Monastery of Saints Peter and Paul in Tuzla, who came to celebrate the arrival of the holiday with joy. Messages were sent about living in justice, love and peace.
