The former ambassador of the United States of America to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Clifford Bond, died at the age of 77.
He held the position of ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2001 to 2004, when the high representative was Paddy Ashdown. Bond played one of the key roles in the reforms that were carried out in BiH at that time. This especially applies to the defense reform, when the unified Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina were formed.
After completing his mission as an ambassador, he also served as a special envoy for Srebrenica in 2007 and 2008.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, also announced his condolences to the President of the United States of America, Joseph Biden, and the family of the deceased.
“It was with sadness that I received the news of the death of the former ambassador of the United States of America to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Clifford G. Bond – an avowed friend of our country. Ambassador Bond, staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period from 2001 to 2004, strongly advocated for independence , the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the full rule of law. Ambassador Clifford G. Bond will be remembered by Bosnia and Herzegovina as one of the most loyal friends. Dear Excellency, To you, the family of the distinguished Ambassador Clifford G. Bond, his friends and all who knew him and I express my deepest condolences,” wrote Bećirović.
