Yesterday, the 17th collective funeral was held at the Veljaca Martyrs’ Cemetery in Bratunac, and the remains of six Bosniak victims, who were killed in this area in the spring of 1992, were buried.

The youngest victim who found her eternal peace today is Amira Paraganlija, who was killed at the age of seven, and her mother Safija Paraganlija (31) and grandmother Rukija Paragajlija (67) were buried next to her. The funeral was also held for Alija Hodžić, Sabaheta Hasanović and Šaćir Muminović.

The funeral prayer was led by Enes ef. Ljevaković, deputy reisu-l-ulema of the Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In addition to family members and friends, the funeral was attended by local government representatives, the OHR delegation, as well as the American ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Michael Murphy, who pointed out that work must continue to find the missing and punish those responsible for war crimes.

“We must continue to work actively to find the missing persons, but also seek justice in terms of prosecuting those who are the perpetrators of these crimes. This is exactly the kind of reconciliation that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs in order to continue building its democracy and to be able to develop as he deserves,” Murphy said.

The most graves in Bosnia and Herzegovina were discovered in Bratunac, and so far more than 300 victims of crimes committed by members of the police and the Army of the RS and neighboring Serbia have been found in the Veljaci cemetery.

The people of Bratunac are looking for around 200 more missing people.
