The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz held yesterday a working meeting with the representatives of both Houses of the Parliament of B&H Bariša Čolak and Šefik Džaferović, within the visit to B&H.
The Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of B&H Bariša Čolak said that this is a very significant visit which comes at a significant moment for B&H, when we are starting the reform process and when our country should finally move pacing towards the European path.
‘’We talked about problems that exist in B&H, about the need of as quick as possible reforms primarily in the socio-economic sphere, about sustainable development, creating new jobs, and today’s session of the House of Peoples on which the agreement IPA2 was adopted. The European parliament and European institutions are interested in this region to as soon as possible move towards the European path. I noted that it is important to, alongside with the reforms, work on the constitutional reforms and electoral legislation, which is a necessary prerequisite for B&H to become a sustainable and prospective country’’, said Čolak, adding that the European institutions have a benevolent view of our country.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives of the PA of B&H Šefik Džaferović said that the arrival of Schulz speaks of the dedication of the European Union to as fast as possible movement of B&H towards membership in its institutions.
Schulz said that they have discussed numerous problems, but that the issue of unemployment is the burning problem which has to be addressed urgently not just in B&H, but in the entire EU.
‘’The unemployment rate of 60 percent is unacceptable, especially since high percentage are highly educated and young people. We have to fight together to fix it. We, leaders of the governments, our generation must give a chance to the next generation to work, because if they do not get the chance, then the country has no future. Employment of young people is the key to the future and success of all countries’’, said Schulz.
He emphasized that, for the fight against terrorism as a main issue throughout the world, cooperation of all security agencies is needed, and that all countries of the EU are committed to that goal. In the end, he thanked for a warm welcome and sad that the European Parliament will be there for B&H and help the country at its European path.
