Consequences of the Referendum through the Cartoon by Šukrija Meholjić

b_160925053Šukrija Meholjić is a cartoonist, a man from Srebrenica who currently lives in Norway, and on the occasion of yesterday’s referendum on the Day of Republika Srpska he drew an interesting caricature.

Šukrija crowned his love for cartooning with 20 independent exhibitions in seven countries and he is also the winner of the special recognition of the expert jury for his works at the International Competition of Caricatures on Srebrenica Genocide, held in Turkey.

Meholjić says he is often inspired by the BiH political everyday life and his last work is dedicated to yesterday’s referendum in the RS.

“I cannot understand how such referendum in the RS is being held, despite the Decision by the Constitutional Court of BiH on its temporary suspension and contrary to the will of two out of three constituent nations in that entity. This is direct violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement and an unseen attack on the constitutional order in a country whose integral part is precisely Republika Srpska. I wonder how courageous or insolent the authorities in the RS must be to implement this action. Why are the relevant state institutions not acting to keep this madness from happening? I did not know that such lawlessness is present in my homeland,” Meholjić said.

Šukrija showed in an interesting way how the referendum in the BiH entity RS could represent an introduction into the secession of the RS from BiH, where the current President of the RS Milorad Dodik is the key player, conducted by the Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, who is in turn connected with the interests of Russia.
