Bisera Turkovic, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH , yesterday opened the Consulate General of BiH in Novi Pazar, Republic of Serbia together with the State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Nemanja Starovic, and the Mayor of Novi Pazar, Nihat Bisevac.

A large number of citizens, representatives of local authorities, religious communities and other dignitaries and representatives of the diplomatic corps attended this historic act.

”The opening of the consulate is an extremely important, historic step for both countries and for citizens on both sides of the border. Especially, because the initiative came from the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic, but also from the Bosniak National Council.

This confirms that there was a strong will and intention to create a framework for bringing people together in this way, but also for solving some elementary and everyday needs and problems. The opening of the Consulate General is a big step for BiHdiplomacy as well which will become stronger and be more at the service of BiH citizens, but also citizens of the Republic of Serbia who have families, friends, jobs, property or business partners in BiH. Our peoples feel a deep mutual connection and it should be easier for them to nurture friendly and business ties.

The citizens of Sandzak feel a deep connection with BiH, and these feelings are mutual. Our desire is to strengthen these relations, with the aim of nurturing good interstate relations and contributing to their further development,” Minister Turkovicstated, among other things, during her address.

Namely, the Consulate General will cover Zlatibor and Raskiadministrative districts, including Novi Pazar, Sjenica, Tutin, Nova Varos, Priboj, and Prijepolje.

The decision to open this institution was made by the BiH Presidency in 2019.
