What Covic said about the Corridor 5C and Road Infrastructure in BiH?

CovicLeaders of the ruling coalition in the FBiH, Bakir Izetbegovic, Fahrudin Radoncic and Dragan Covic, met today in the headquarters of the Presidency of BiH, and the main topic of the meeting was the construction of highways and road infrastructure.

Leader of HDZ, Dragan Covic, said that another 2 billion EUR will be invested in the road infrastructure and construction of the highway and that they should be careful that nothing goes wrong. He is optimistic and believes that all disputes will be settled next month.

He expressed his optimism for the construction of Corridor 5C and said that if things go according to today’s meeting, the majority of the Corridor 5C could be completed in the next few years.

“I believe that we will soon have defined every part of the Corridor 5C and motorways, return to the standards that have been disturbed, and that we will look for high-quality source of funds together. One important segment is linked to the process of excise, the part of fiscalization, where we have to secure enough money through excises,” said Covic.

After today’s meeting and the atmosphere of mutual respect, leader of HDZ  believes that the coalition is on the right track.

“We will complete the majority of the Corridor 5C and the fast roads in the next 5-6 years in order for BiH to have modern infrastructure. We will discuss the Adriatic-Ionian highway very soon with the Republic of Croatia, for which we want to pass through BiH. World financial institutions significantly followed previous projects so we will continue in this way in one part, and we already provided the money for the southern part of the motorway, but it is not withdrawn yet due to technical issues such as the selection of contractors,” said Covic.

He recalled that he was in the Government of BiH since 1998  when discussions on the Corridor 5C were open.

“This means that we have built 100 kilometers of highways for 18 years – that is it about how we were building so far. We are not hiding behind the problem, we should provide funds and define the direction in order not to have problems as in Pocitelj, Also, in the beginning, the motorway was supposed to go through western Herzegovina and after 10 years of discussion it was shifted east. One hundred kilometers is done in other parts of the country and I’m now focused exclusively on Herzegovina because we do not have anything other than a border crossing there,” concluded Covic.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Transport and Communications Ismir Jusko, Prime Minister of the FBiH, Fadil Novalic, Federal Minister of Finance Jelka Milicevic, deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH Vjekoslav Bevanda and Melika Mahmutbegovic, the Vice President of the FBiH.
