A curfew has been imposed in the Syrian capital Damascus and the cities of Latakia and Tartus, the newspaper “El Watan” reported.
The report states that the decision was made by the “command” of the armed opposition units.
The curfew will be in effect from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Central European Time.
Violations of the curfew are punishable by a month in prison, TASS reported.
Exemptions from the ban will be issued for health workers, rescue workers, firefighters and members of the military and security agencies.
The new Syrian authorities have called on the Syrian people to “cooperate and report violations of the curfew.”
Syrian opposition armed forces launched an offensive on November 27 against forces fighting on the side of the now former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and by Saturday evening, December 7, they had captured Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, Deir ez-Zor, Daraa and Homs. Rebels entered Damascus last night, and government forces left the capital.
Assad resigned after negotiations and left Syria.
Meanwhile, the rebels also captured Latakia.
Israeli forces have been deployed to a buffer zone in the Golan Heights, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the move was aimed at protecting Israelis after Syrian forces abandoned their positions.
