The Federal Ministry of Education and Science (FMON) collects data on the number of primary and secondary school students from the competent cantonal ministries, which should generally have official data available in September, given the deadlines for student enrollment in schools.

According to the data available on the enrollment of students in primary and secondary schools in the 2019/2020 school year, in the Federation of BiH, in most cantons, there is a downward trend in the number of students enrolled in the first grades, according to the Ministry.

According to current preliminary data, the greatest decrease trend in enrollment in the first grades of primary schools has been recorded in Una-Sana, Zenica-Doboj and Tuzla cantons.

At the same time, the number of first-graders enrolled in the Bosnia-Podrinje Canton and Sarajevo Canton increased.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Science signed contracts with all the cantonal ministries of education this year to finance / co-finance the provision of free textbooks for students in other grades of nine-year primary education, primarily those in social need. For this, 600,000 BAM was secured in the budget for this year, Avaz news portal reports.
