‘Diaspora Invest’ Project, worth 15.7 million dollars is officially launched

Today in Sarajevo, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) officially launched the new five-year ‘Diaspora Invest’ project, worth 15.7 million dollars, Fena reports.

The goal of the project is to engage the BiH diaspora and encourage its investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The US Ambassador Michael Murphy said that they believe that the diaspora can play an important role in promoting positive changes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in terms of the economy.

He added that they base it on the experiences of the previous ‘Diaspora Invest’ project, which resulted in 28 million dollars of investments and 1,500 new jobs.

“We hope that this new project will result in 50 million dollars of investments and 2,000 new jobs and that it will support around 600 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises,” said Murphy.

The co-owner of the company Derubis Caravans from Vitez, Kerim Hadžić, stated that in 2020 he returned from China to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he started a company for the production of caravans, with the help of friends, most of whom are in the diaspora.

“I live for the idea that BiH brings back a good part of its people from the diaspora and to create top businesses and strengthen the economy to the extent that it affects every segment of society,” said Hadžić.
