Terrible news arrived from Spain yesterday morning that Liverpool striker and Portuguese national team player Diogo Jota died at the age of 29 in a traffic accident that occurred in western Spain.
Jota died only about ten days after he held a wedding and married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso.
The Portuguese got married on June 22nd to the girl he had been in a relationship with for years, and who gave birth to their three children.
“June 22nd, 2025. Yes, forever,” Rute and Diogo wrote on Instagram in a joint post in which they shared photos from the wedding.
Their oldest child is a boy born in 2021, one child was born in 2023, while their last baby was born on November 26th, 2024, and it is a daughter.
They had been together for more than ten years, that is, long before the professional football career of the Portuguese striker began.
Since 2020, Jota had been a Liverpool player, and for Portugal, he played 49 matches and scored 14 goals.
He twice won the Nations League with Portugal, and with Liverpool, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.
