Doctor from BiH replaced New York and Kuwait with Sarajevo

dr_mersiha_avdic_saracevicAlthough many doors of dental offices all around the world are opened for her, from New York to Kuwait, Doctor Mersiha Avdic-Saracevic, a periodontist, decided to work and live in Sarajevo without any second thoughts.

In the dental office, “Dr. Begeta”, which is located in the heart of Sarajevo, she has been healing the BiH citizens for six years of gum disease, periodontal disease, about which, she says, unfortunately in our country is still little known about.

Dr. Avdic-Saracevic left Sarajevo when she was 17 years old, and perfected her knowledge in one of the most prestigious American universities, Harvard University.

„I want to offer our people the most modern treatments that are used in the treatment of this disease worldwide, so we would not have an edentulous population“, said Dr. Avdic-Saracevic. She stated that periodontal disease is associated with other diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.

“A large number of patients approach me, after they were in dental offices where they were told that nothing can be done, that periodontal disease cannot be treated, that it only occurs in older people. That is incorrect, it occurs in younger people as well, even more aggressively. “

„Periodontal disease leads to bone loss and loss of teeth as the terminal stage of the disease,” said Dr. Avdic-Saracevic.

She warned that many patients have periodontal disease, and they are not even aware of it.

Dr. Avdic-Saracevic added that patients can learn more about the disease and treatment methods on the website http://www.parodontolog.ba.

“Periodontal disease is a disease which is not talked about, little is known of it, and a lot of misinformation are circulating about the disease. Therefore, we need to work on raising awareness among patients and the entire population about our oral health,” said Dr. Avdic-Saracevic.
