When asked to comment on the upcoming matches of playoffs for the European Championships 2016 between the national football teams of B&H and Ireland, for which his former teammate from Manchester United John O’Shea plays, Rio Ferdinand dedicated special attention to Edin Džeko and Miralem Pjanić.
“I think Džeko is a good player. I played against him several times. I am surprised that Manchester City let him go. He is someone who strikes all the time; we have seen that in the Champions League for Roma. He is a world-class player. I also played against him when he was in Wolfsburg, he is physically very strong and often defeats his guards. He is big and strong, aggressive, and he knows how to score,” said Ferdinand, explaining how Ireland should play against the BH national team.
“The best thing that Ireland can do is to not allow the ball to reach Džeko at all. Pjanić is probably the best player of B&H and, if he gets enough balls, he can be very dangerous. John O’Shea and the company know they have to play tightly and firmly,” Ferdinand said.
O’Shea will not play in the first match due to suspension, and he is currently recovering from tendon injury and it is doubtful whether he will be ready for the rematch in Dublin.
