parlament-bihBegins the project of the European Union support to the development of parliamentary structures in B&H – said today in Sarajevo the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Federation of B&H Fehim Škaljić.

This is a twinning project, worth 3.5 million euros, of which more than one million euros relates to the Federation of B&H.

The management of the Parliament of the FB&H and the team of twinning project held a meeting where they discussed the concept, objectives and the key organizational issues of its implementation.

“The aim is to enable the Parliament for the European Affairs”, said Škaljić after the meeting, adding that the implementer of the project will be a French- Hungarian team and that the project will be implemented in the next two years.

According to him, the objectives are divided into seven groups. Among other things, it is crucial to enable Parliament to the legislative function.

Also, as Škaljić said, this will create mechanisms and procedures to actively include non-governmental organizations in the work of the Parliament in the process of public debate and in the activities of the parliamentary bodies in the process of law and in what is important for the preparation of B&H for Europe, cooperation between all levels of Parliament – state, entity, cantonal and Brčko District parliaments.

“There will be a permanent office of twinning project in Parliament and we are dedicated to the teams who are employed in the service of the Parliament and the leadership of both Houses of Parliament that this process to be implemented and to contribute to the capacity of B&H towards Europe”, added Škaljić.

The Chairman of the House of People of the Parliament of federation, Radoje Vidović expressed his gratitude to the EU that has recognized the need to strengthen parliaments in B&H.

“I think that the insufficient capacity of Parliaments is one reason that B&H is behind on its path towards the EU. I hope that the realization of this project will contribute to the empowerment of parliaments in B&H, including the Parliament of FB&H and that in an easier way to solve all the tasks of the parliament, in order that Bosnia and Herzegovina to move forward”, said Vidović, adding that is being prepared the presentation of all activities that will take place as part of this project.
