As part of its sponsorship activities, the Office of the European Union Special Representative (EUSR) in BiH supports this year’s Mediteran Film Festival, a documentary film festival which is taking place in Široki Brijeg since 2000. Every year, thousands of visitors attend the Festival’s screenings covering wide range of social topics, such as civil activism, LGBTI rights, conflicts, social exclusion, etc.

At the opening ceremony of the Festival on Wednesday, 23 August 2017, Chargé d’Affaires of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina Khaldoun Sinno stated that the European Union is proud to sponsor the Mediteran Festival, adding that the Mediterranean region is the cradle of the European culture. “This Festival is yet another example how people on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s cultural scene are at the forefront of the country’s EU integration efforts. We have the highest appreciation for their hard work and commitment and welcome opportunities to support them,” Sinno said.

Chargé d’Affaires Sinno used this opportunity to congratulate the Director of the Mediteran Festival Tomislav Topić on the “Ivica Matić” Award he received at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival for his contribution to documentary film in BiH.
During his visit, Sinno also met with the Mayor of Široki Brijeg Miro Kraljević to discuss local development priorities and the important role of local authorities in the European integration process.
Sinno also visited some of the successful locally-based companies in Široki Brijeg, as well as the Franciscan Monastery.
