EU opens Health Center at Brus Site in Trebevic Mountain

Beginning today, residents of the municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, as well as visitors to the Olympic mountain Trebević and picnic area Brus, will have at their disposal a new fully equipped outpatient clinic that could efficiently and quickly provide different types of interventions in case of need. For this purpose, the EU in BiH provided 100,000 BAM for the purchase of necessary medical equipment, office furniture, and one off-road vehicle allowing for a quick response in the provision of medical services in various places.

The outpatient clinic on the Mountain Trebević was officially opened by the Head of the EU Delegation and EU special representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador Johann Sattler, the Mayor of the Istočni Stari Grad Municipality Bojo Gašanović and the Director of the Istočni Stari Grad Health Centre Tatjana Bekrić.

“As a favourite destination for people living nearby as well as tourists, and as one of my own favourite destinations, Trebevic is now equipped to offer better and faster medical care in case of need. The newly established outpatient clinic in Brus will not only enable the citizens and tourists to get quick and better quality medical care but also ensure better working conditions for medical workers. This is another concrete example of our support for BiH, which makes a tangible difference for people in this country”, said Ambassador Sattler.

The establishment of the outpatient clinic is vital for the residents of the municipality Istočni Stari Grad and the settlement of Brus, who previously had to drive nearly 30 kilometres to get medical assistance. In addition, the new outpatient clinic will be accessible to numerous tourists that visit Trebević.

“The EU support is very important, especially given that this underdeveloped municipality makes significant efforts to create living and working conditions comparable to those found in developed and urban towns. On the other side, this support is significant since we have been acknowledged as quality partners for the successful implementation of EU initiatives for local communities,” said Mayor Gašanović.

For the medical staff as well as the Mountain Rescue Service, the new fully equipped outpatient clinic will provide better working conditions and efficient intervention for the benefit of the citizens.

“By putting this health facility into operation, a large number of people will have the opportunity to receive primary health care services, which is especially important given that health is one of the most important services that citizens expect from the public sector“, said  director Bekrić.

The equipping of the outpatient clinic and the purchase of an off-road vehicle are provided as part of the “EU for local communities” project. With this project worth 1.7 million euros, the European Union finances a large number of interventions throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina that are important for strengthening local communities and improving the quality of life of citizens. The project is implemented by the Centre for the Promotion of Civil Society with the partner organization Help.
