European Parliament: Funds to support Kyiv are not adequately monitored

The majority of EU MPs believe that the bloc’s funds allocated to support Ukraine are not “adequately monitored” and that in this regard, increased checks are needed, the European Parliament announced on Friday.

Earlier today, EU MPs adopted a resolution pointing out the lack of transparency in spending EU public money.

“EU MPs warn that the resources allocated for Europe’s response to the war in Ukraine are not adequately monitored and call for more detailed checks, as well as the introduction of a fraud-free system for future financing of Ukraine,” the European Parliament said in a statement after the adoption of the resolution.

Western countries, including EU members, have been providing financial and military aid to Kiev since the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.

The EU has so far provided almost 85 billion euros of various types of aid, including humanitarian, economic and military, the European Commission announced at the end of December 2023.
