Explosions Rock Northern Iran: Thermal Power Plant Burns as Earthquake Hits Region

In the Alborz mountainous region, after several explosions, a large fire broke out at a thermal power plant in the city of Karaj, and numerous Iranian accounts on the X Network reported an earthquake that occurred simultaneously in the region.

A firestorm visible for kilometers away engulfed a large thermal power plant in Karaj, which was preceded by powerful explosions.

The incident was accompanied by a magnitude 4.0 earthquake in the same area, with an epicenter 8 km below the surface. There are currently no details on the damage caused by this earthquake, nor any information that would connect the explosions and the fire with the registered ground tremors.

According to Iranian media, Karaj is also home to the Iranian Centrifuge Technology Company (TESA) complex, where centrifuges used for uranium enrichment are manufactured.

This is the second recorded explosion at critical infrastructure facilities, as six days ago a powerful explosion in Iran’s largest port of Bandar Abbas killed 40 people and injured more than 1,000 people, Klix.ba writes.
