FBiH Government and Retailers Reach Agreement to Extend “Price Locking” Campaign

The working group should make a proposal for “locking prices” by the end of the week, it was concluded at a meeting of representatives of the Government of the Federation of BiH, employers and representatives of trade and food producers.

It should then be known how much product prices could be reduced or adjusted, in what form and how this would be done.

As before, the focus will be on basic foodstuffs.

Representatives of retail chains recalled that in January there was an increase in the prices of certain products on the world market, such as coffee, wheat and cocoa, and that it should be borne in mind that a significant price reduction cannot be expected for such products, but that the new proposal will take care to include basic foodstuffs on the list of reduced and locked prices.

“We tried to find the best solutions through joint dialogue. One of the conclusions is that we will continue the “locked prices” campaign. We are continuing the dialogue,” said the Minister of Trade of the Federation of BiH, Amir Hasičević, after the meeting.

He recalled that last year the “locking prices” project showed good results.

The Federal Ministry of Trade emphasized that the goal of today’s meeting is to find a balance between the interests of the business sector and the protection of citizens.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, the Federal Minister of Trade, Amir Hasičević, and the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Kemal Hrnjić, as well as six representatives of the Association of Employers from the trade sector and representatives of food producers.
