Finalization of First Phase of Project on Energy Efficiency in BiH

The GIZ project “Energy Efficiency Consultancy in BiH” in the last three years has developed its capacity for energy efficiency and worked on raising awareness in six municipalities in BiH-Zenica, Zvornik, Travnik, Laktaši, Livno and Prijedor.

Comprehensive development in the municipalities was achieved together with partners of the project-Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Association of municipalities and cities in FBiH and the RS, and the environmental funds in both BiH entities.

The municipalities signed an agreement of the mayors of European cities and prepared everything for the sustainable action plans (SEAP) that are published on the websites of the Agreement of Mayors.

This obligates municipalities to implement projects that would reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent until 2020.

In support of the implementation there are a number of pilot projects, and the office for citizens for energy efficiency have been set up in Zenica, Laktaši and Zvornik-solar wood in Prijedor, LED lighting in the elementary school in Livno and solar collectors for hot water in Travnik.

Furthermore, energy days in Prijedor, Zenica, Travnik and Livno have gained support.

Energy audits for buildings owned by the municipality were conducted from private local companies in every municipality.

The end of the first phase of the project will be marked at a workshop in Sarajevo on 21 March.

The second phase of the project will begin on 1 April and will focus on the implementation of energy management in municipalities.

The second phase of the project will last two and a half years. The project is financed by the German government through GIZ, and will be implemented by two German companies GFA Consulting Group and Integration.
