Along with local officials, this event was attended by the mothers of Srebrenica, Mayor of the Srebrenica Municipality Ćamil Duraković, and the Reis ul-Ulema of the Islamic Community in BiH Husein Effendi Kavazović. In his addressing speech, Kavazović highlighted the importance of the complex as a symbol of resistance.

“This is another memory and fight against oblivion regarding what happened in Srebrenica. There is a connection between Goražde and Srebrenica and this is the right place. That is why I want to thank the Mufti, Mayor of the Goražde Municipality, Prime Minister of the Bosnia-Podrinje Canton and all of you who revived this idea in all of us. Brothers and sisters, our fight for the truth must endure, this is another spot from where we are sending the truth about us to the world,” said Kavazović.

The gate to the Memorial Forest 8.372 was opened and, symbolically, representatives of associations of the mothers of Srebrenica planted the first seedlings in the complex. Complex of the Memorial Forest will comprise of 8.372 seedlings that will be planted by the citizens, thus nurturing the culture of remembrance of their killed compatriots.

“What Goražde is doing for Srebrenica especially makes us happy, the families of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. This is a proof that the fate of Srebrenica will not be forgotten,” said Munira Subašić, president of the Association Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves.

Ceremony at Posestra was preceded by the presentation of the project Memorial Forest 8.372 in the Islamic Cultural Center Goražde.
