Free Textbooks for Children attending Primary School in RS soon?

Representatives of the initiative for the introduction of free textbooks for children attending primary school in Republika Srpska (RS) expect the Entity Parliament to adopt a conclusion by which amendments to the Basic Education Act will be introduced in order to introduce free textbooks from 2020.

Otherwise, they will launch new proposals to bring this initiative to an end.

According to announcements from the RS Ministry of Education, there is no money in this year for free textbooks to be given from September.

If the RS National Assembly, at a session scheduled for January 29th,  backed this request, it would urge the Government to initiate the law-abiding process to introduce free textbooks to all elementary school students in the RS. For free textbooks for every child in RS, the amount of approximately 10 to 12 million BAM is required, Federal News Agency reports.
