hospital2General Hospital “Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakas” received new equipment for the safe and appropriate disposal of infectious waste in order to prevent emergence of dangerous and toxic substances in the Canton Sarajevo.

Infectious hospital waste is considered as biohazard because it contains dangerous components such as syringes, disposable materials intended for single-use, cultivated bacteria cultures, various human body fluids and secretions, contaminated materials such as bandages, diapers, rags, paper, etc.

It is estimated that out of 4 kilograms of hospital waste, one kilogram goes on infectious waste.

Minister of Physical Planning, Building and Environmental Protection Cedomir Lukic, who visited the hospital yesterday, explained that the total value of this project is 300,000 BAM. This ministry allocated 240,000 BAM for the project of disposal of infectious waste, while hospitals participated with a total of 60,000 BAM.

“New equipment was purchased and the capacity of the facility that is not only used for the purposes of general hospitals, but also all others, private and public medical institutions that are disposing their infectious waste in this way, has been increased,” said Lukic.
